Pi Lambda Chi's Herstory

Chapter I -

Sisterhood, education, unity, and the preservation of the Latina culture were all reasons why ΠΛΧ was founded at CU Boulder on March 5, 1994. ΠΛΧ was the first Latina sorority at the University of Colorado Boulder. The initial group began in the Spring of 1993 in Boulder, CO with five students. The group of women met for weekly dinners at members’ homes with traditional Mexican food. In the fall of 1993, they formed an interest group that expanded to fourteen women.

Chapter II -

ΠΛΧ was the result of the hard work and effort of fourteen unique, young ladies. They believed the sorority would be founded under the following values:

- To create a support system to help Latinas overcome obstacles in higher education and in life

- To contribute to the Greek system already in place

- To promote education and community service in the Latina/o community

- To embrace Latina/o culture

Chapter III -

On March 5, 1994, the group headed to Tabernash, CO to choose the letters, colors, symbols, and constitutional requirements. That evening, they adopted the letters ΠΛΧ. This group was the first to cross over into the sisterhood of ΠΛΧ. March 5, 1994, forevermore became known as Founders' Day. CU Boulder recognized the sorority on April 18, 1994.

Chapter IV -

ΠΛΧ’s first pledge line began as an interest group in the fall of 1994. The pledge process of this line began January 21, 1995 with eleven women.
